This is one of the slogans used in Slovakia regarding the use of Euro from January 2009. Think about it, it's quite funny, wanted to say that the prices will be the same, nothing will be more expensive, but it come out differently LOL

status report 2

Asszem mar csak ilyen helyzetjelenteseket fogok irni, mivel mikor eszembe jut valami erdekes, akkor nincs net, amikor meg van, akkor nincs kedvem irni vagy nincs mirol. Szoval, mi is tortent velem:

• ma megneztem az uj bond filmet, elmegy, de igazabol a ,,12" cimu orosz filmet akartam, csak lekestem es ez maradt, majd legkozelebb
• itt volt a mikulas, sok csoki mellett azert egy mandarin is volt :) a masik mikulast meg varjuk... :-S
• jovo het utan mar karacsony :) bakki meg nem vettem semmit es csutortokon megyunk nemetorszagba ceges karacsonyi bulira, egy este majapolas, aztan egesz nap kinlodas, este meg hazaut... de kibirjuk, ingyen etel-ital mindig jol jon

Hello,

szoval megiscsak kivancsi vagy mi van velem? Orulok, akkor esetleg irhatsz is, orulni fogok, kiveve ha tudod ki vagy, csak viccelek :) Regen irtam, ezert ez a kis status report.
-Simi talalkozo egesz jo volt, megha kevesen is voltunk. Aztan betoppant Forgi es megkerdezte nem megyunk-e meg, mert nincs helyuk, hehe. nem mentunk, de lehet jobb lett volna, mert a masnap hajnali keles nem volt a legfrissebb.
- Cirkusz Becsben szuper volt, teljesen mas mint egy oroszlanidomaros idiotabohocos lovaglos hulyeseg, van dvd-m, akit erdekel megkaphatja. nem, nem vettem :D
- aztan hosszu kihagyas, semmitteves betegsegek miatt :(
- tegnap vettem egy Canon EF 50mm F1.8 II objektivet, de csak mert mar kellett valami jatekszer es ez a tobbihez kepest nagyon olcso es elkepesztoen eles (osszehasonlitva a masikkal EF-S 17-85). Majd teszek fel par kepet a flickr-re, talan.

Adobe Framemaker - Czech and Slovak language patch

Uspesne sa mi podarilo vytvorit patch pre Adobe Framemaker, ktory prida podporu cestiny a slovenciny. Je to univerzalny patcher, co znamena ze funguje so vsetkymi verziami Framemaker od verzie 5.* az po 7.*. Osmicka uz ma podporu unicode, tam je to nepotrebne. Skorsie verzie som nemal moznost odskusat, ale mohlo by to ist. Ak to niekoho zaujima, nech sa ozve (vlavo je contact me). Alebo mi nechaj odkaz, keby to neslo, niekedy to vypadava.

Cirque du Soleil

After two heavy weekends (team building and helping a friend with a work) I told myself that I deserve some fun. Ok, the teambuilding was fun. Sso I bought 2 tickets on Cirque du Soleil in Vienna. Yeah, I can't wait to see them and I hope I could make some pictures. But I think that won't be possible, anyway, I'll take my camera.

Case sensitive table names in oracle - WTF

We imported an M$Sql database to Oracle and the table names were case sensitive, all like tWHATEVER, tUSERS. Our program was not working because of bad SQL commands. After renaming a table (all uppercase) it becomes case insensitive.

Solution 1: rename all tables by hand using a tool (like TOAD)
Solution 2: write a script that does it for you, renaming by hand hundreds or thousands of tables is not an option. Here's the script, it's not error prone but works.

Known bugs: if table name is already case insensitive, it fails on renaming.

Lightroom 2 - edit more pictures in Photoshop Disabled

So, I began to use Lightroom 2 and after a time a really like it despite it needs a strong machine. I use it in combination with Photoshop 10.0. So when you select more pictures and want them to edit in photoshop, in context menu the options for editing all in layers, panorama, hdr are disabled.

Solution: LR2 requires photoshop CS3 10.0.1, you need to update! That's it. Also there's a LR2.1 patch coming, already in test phase that should fix many bugs.

Istanbul trip

So, finally a decided to write about our trip to Istanbul, with a beautiful historical centre and its overgrown surrounding. I believe this city could be more atmospheric with just one or two million of population or even less. 15 million is just too much in its unorganized, annoying, dirty way.

We arrived 2am local time, the humidity was real high, got problems with breathing for a while. Waited a long time to buy visa, then again for passport control and again for money change, many things to improve. not talking about the travel back, when computer system was off and everything was made by hand, printed passenger lists, ... we really enjoyed :S

Ok, so we got to the city, 5am, tired, where to go? where's the hotel? when we can check in? was funny, bought water and after an hour of decision making we headed to the hotel. We wanted to leave there our bags until we can check in but we were allowed to that right at that time. great :) sleeping till noon... this was the pre-first day :)

Just to make it faster, the following days we visited many tourist attractions. Nice/boring/interesting but all in common quite expensive.

Tourist attractions

Galata tower for 10 lira, with modern elevator in it??? restaurant and nightclub at the top, expected something else. and the view nothing special as the humidity was really high, go there morning or late afternoon.

Hagia Sofia - 20 lira, inside a great constructions for many years now used for renovation , hides 25% of inside. anyway interesting if you have a guide (agreed on 10 lira in advance and asked 20 when finished, simply Turks).

More in Sultanahmet - lot of things to see here:

• Hippodrom - boring
• Basilica Cistern - expensive for those two medusa heads :)
• other mosques - see one, seen all
• Spice Bazaar - nice colors, made for tourists
• Grand Bazaar - nice old building, only tourist attraction nowadays
• Archeological museum - were not there
• Gulhane park - thats nice
• Istanbul University Park - ok, boring

By ship on Bosporus - 20 lira (tourist price!), inconvenient, crowded ship, slow, boring, no entertaining, no information told what to see etc.

Night life
We were staying in a hotel on Nevizade street, the centre of restaurants, shops, pubs and entertainment. Looks great, had much fun there. The beer (Efes) is really like urine, sorry guys, that's it and it's really overpriced for the quality (5-10 lira for 0.5l). The food is ok, sometimes strangely spicy, but very small, I needed 2 or 3 times more to have the same as used to. We enjoyed the bar on a roof, but there are less peaple and less fun, the view is usually not interesting (maybe in 360, but was not there) and from the toilet windows lower the wind blows the smell of urine, yeah! So, nothing special in roof bars.

People
Turkish people are annoying till they don't convince you and after that the services are not as good. They want to sell you anything for many times more than it really costs. Don't show them your purse or how much money you have, check twice how much is the return. In shops there are usually no price tags, don't tell any amount you wish to pay, cause even 50% discount is often many times more, and if you tell the price, you have to buy! Check for prices at more places, but let them to offer the price, just say too much.

Canon Cashback - Look up rebate

So, I participated in this super program, named Canon Cashback. Everything nice and great marketing just they keep money as long as they can. I sent my papers in the first days of June, they confirmed it 11th of July and told me that I should have my money in 20 days. We are at 40 now and still nothing. If everything is automated then why they couldn't send the money the same day as confirmation? What you think? Yes, yes, ...
I visited the page http://canon.submissionstatus.com/contactus.aspx where I could send them my questions and complaints, it's a huge form asking for lot of personal data (and not encrypted), when you finally fill everything, it throws an exception on the server side, see picture:

Strange, nobody complained and nobody reported this error? Yes, why? Cause you can contact them only via web, I found no direct email address to do so. And the exception - nobody displays these days exceptions to users, why do they? This is the easyest way to keep off complaints? Or a huge mistake from them and forgot about it? Don't think so, for months now? Thank you Canon. Poor services and good marketing: sell, don't care, ignore?

I sent a mail to canon at random addresses I have found using google, hope to get answer.

And do I need that money? Yes and no, but they convinced me to buy with this promotion and I can wait but that 'contactus' page makes me too much upset.

UPDATE: Seems that canon outsources the whole process of payback, but it is not an excuse! My favourite page is http://submissionstatus.com/faq.aspx where they write how long it will take and other excuses why they are so slow...

UPDATE2: I wrote to canon, I just got an automated reply that within two weeks I'll got reply, great. Few days later I got a mail that the money is on the way, yeah :) The next week I got it. I did not check again the contact page if they made a bugfix, but I don't care now. Cashback is just selling as much as possible before prices drop dramatically.

Isztanbul back

Reggel 5:45, hazaertem Isztanbulbol, a tegnapi hosszu es hasmeneses nap utan mar alig vartam, de errol tobbet a kovetkezo napokban, toltok fel kepeket meg valami tortenetet is, mert meselnivalo az van, szerencsere tobb jo mint kellemetlen (mert olyan is volt). Akkor a kovetkezo napokban folyamatosan jonnek az uj bejegyzesek... :)

Isztanbul

Heh, meg par ora es irany Isztambul :) felullunk a repulore es mar ott is vagyunk, csak azt nem tudom, mit fogunk hajnali kettokor csinalni mig megkezdodik az elet. Lehet viszunk egy uveget utra, nappal meg majd fekves lesz a vege. vegulis night-life sem rossz. Majd utanna lesz par kep, remelem jobbak (technikailag kivitelezve) es erdekesebbek, mint Horvatorszagbol...

Annoying spaceball.gif on flickr

As last week I created my flickr stream I also was exploring other ones. I saved some interesting pics as a future inspiration for my photos and found out that when you click right and want to save the pic, it only saves some weird spaceball.gif. WTF?!
Hm, this gif file is transparent image over the real image so you can't click on it and save. There are many ways to do get behind this, through different plug-ins, exploring cache, ... I present you two of them, solution for firefox users (but reproducable in other browsers):

• The easy one that needs no plugin:
  1. click right on the page, not the picture
     
  2. click view page info
  3. click media tab
  4. find the image and click save
  5. viola! protection gone ;)
• Get rid of spaceball.gif for ever
  1. you need a plug-in that blocks advertisements, I used ad-block plus
  2. create a filter for spaceball.gif (e.g. http://*/spaceball.gif)
  3. viola! no more spaceball, it's gone for ever

Eloszor operaban...

Hol volt, hol nem volt, asszem oregszem vagy kultursznobba alakulok, ki tudja. Figyelmembe kerult egy orosz opera, a Boris Godunov. Mi legyen, mennyunk. Igy is lett, gondoltam vagy megtetszik vagy nem, nincs mit veszteni. Es igy is volt, jo zene Musorgskij-tol, tortenet Puskin tollabol es nagyon jo rendezes, fenyek... Bevallom az elso felvonas eleg lassu volt es majdnem bealudtam, hehe :)
Kovetkezo opera azert meg nincs tervben, de Shakespeare unnepsegekre megyek, baratnom unokatestvere jatszik, megnezzuk. Kell egy kis kultura, nem csak keso estig tarto tarsadalmi elet ;)

PS: aztan voltunk Shakespeare unnepsegeken is Pozsonyban a varban, az Antonius es Kleopatrat neztuk. Nagyon jo volt, foleg mivel kinti eloadas volt es elegge szeles ido volt, sok improvizallas belefuzodott ez miatt. nem elfelejtett szovegre gondolok, hanem beepitett utalasokra... Foleg Zuzana Fialova szereplese volt rendkivuli, de a tobbiek is megerdemlik a dicseretet (Tomáš Maštalír, Ľuboš Kostelný, Kanócz Zsuzsa, Kassai Csongor, Jan Révai, Petrom Halberstadt). Ennyi, vagyis addig mig, valaki nem lesz kivacsi tobbre ;)

Holiday (Day8) - Plitvice

Our last day, on the way back home we stopped in Plitvice and walked cca 4 hours in between the lakes and waterfalls.

Holiday (Day7) - Zrmanja

Canoe on river Zrmanja, 3 hours, 14km. For us it was 20 as we were not able to go directly :) It was fun despite the fact that after the first half we were exhausted. But we managed to finish!

Holiday (Day6) - Kornati, Telascica

Going by ship to Kornati and Telascica, the morning was quite windy and after 30 minutes it also started to rain. All the old mummies moved to the small cabin and overweighted the back. Even the waves didn't make the trip more enjoyable. Happily it stopped raining and we moved to the front, it was much better. Around 13:00 we had lunch on an island. Then went to NP Telascica with its extremely salt lake Mir, I managed to dring from it so I know what I'm talking about :)

Holiday (Day5) - Split, Trogir

Fifth day, all night was heavily raining so we dropped the original plan of biking around Vranske lake. We went to visit Split and Trogir. The view from the highway on Split is amazing: valley, castle, city - unfortunately I made no picture of it.

Holiday (Day4) - Modric Cave

Spilja Modric is a cave near Modrić, Rovanjska near the highway, you won't really find it in any tourist guide, you can visit it only with a guide who has permissions. There are narrow passages somewhere only 40cm wide wholes that you have to climb through. Also there is dark so without light source you are lost, even with it :)
The whole cave is only cca 800m long, but to find the way between rooms is not so easy. There is a junction where nobody is allowed, even guides as there are many thousand year old skeletons of mankind and animals on the ground, they are not really visible and they want to prevent them from damaging.
